Remote Weather Observations

Automated weather stations provide valuable information for avalanche risk management activities. The accuracy and reliability of remote weather stations relies on proper design along with consistent and regular maintenance and calibration.

A tutorial on automated weather stations and the interpretation of the data they provide can be launched here.

CAVEAT UTILITOR: The accustomed usefulness of automated remote weather stations can lead to frustration when a component(s) of the system fails to function as desired.  These remote sites collect near real-time data that is transmitted via radio, telecom, and internet. Outages and delays may occur at any stage during their collection and display.  Sensors at times may provide incorrect readings (apply common sense quality assurance).
